The
            Way We Were
          Individual stories of the
war years from the people who lived them. These stories are sometimes
heroic, sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, or sometimes simply remembering
things that should never be forgotten.

              "DUTY,
              HONOR, COUNTRY"

          General Douglas
MacArthur's amazing military career spanned two world wars, the Korean
War and several smaller wars. He is considered by many to be America's
most brilliant war-time general. His genius made him the most winning
military leader in WWII and in Korea. His inspired governing of a
defeated Japan is credited with Japan's quick and spectacular post-war
recovery. These stirring words expressed his entire credo:
          "The
long gray line has never failed us. Were you to do so, a million ghosts
in olive drab, in brown khaki, in blue and gray would rise from their
white crosses, thundering those magic words: duty, honor, country."
