April Fool Prank 'fess up!

Sunday, April 1, 2012, we reported the finding of A WWII U-boat in the mud south of Jackson MS. NOT TRUE! The Pearl river mud is probably deep enough but the river certainly isn't and absolutely not for a submerged fleet U-Boat. Mud doesn't protect metal from corrosion. The names were all made up by me to protect the guilty. Herr Von Reisenberg did not with the Nobel prize in 1939 (Mike's nefarious addition), the crew and captain did not break into a POW camp and remain unobserved until the end of the war and Captain Mimler did not become a US citizen and die on 9/11 (suggested by my devious wife). The source of each of the images is listed at the bottom - none were as indicated.

There are many more . . . ah . . . untruths in the story but it was reported in The Northside Sun newspaper, Jackson, MS, on April 1, 2010. I fell for it then hook, line, and sinker and been waiting since then to get even! We hope it brought at least a smile. We sure had fun doing it.

Thank you for all who responded . . . even those who bad-mouthed my "sense of humor." Most fell for it (as I did.) I will personally respond to each.

The Northside Sun newspaper did apologize a few days after April Fool's Day 2010.

U-Boat lost in 1944 Found

FIRST RUMORED and then confirmed by credible sources this week is the discovery in October 2010 of a World War II German submarine (U-Boat) in the Pearl river just south of Jackson, MS. Sources say that the deep mud is the reason it is preserved so well. The heavy thick mud prevented oxygen from reaching the wreck for 65 years.

The CIA, FBI and intelligence sources from the U.S. Army, Navy, and Coast Guard have been excavating the submarine and analyzing its contents around-the-clock under armed guard since it's discovery in 2010. Current sources reveal a preserved conning tower and several rooms including that of the captain. One room actually contained a working (after cleaning and oiling) Enigma machine! The U-boat has been identified as U-XXX (number blanked pending notification of family.)

Its mission was to facilitate the escape and return to Germany of two high ranking Afrika Korps
generals and one important nuclear physicist, Clause Von Reisenberg (Nobel Prize in Physics — 1939) from Camp Clinton. See German Prisoner of War Camp, Clinton, MS.

The torpedoes were still armed and posed considerable danger to the investigators and surrounding areas thus the increased security and secrecy of the recovery process. This is one reason the find has been kept secret so long. The other is the rumored nuclear material and information.

There were no human remains found. The U-boat proceeded all the way up the river submerged until it ran a ground (perhaps amud would be more accurate.) There were obvious unsuccessful efforts to free themselves over a course of several days. It is assumed all survivors escaped to Camp Clinton where they remained unobserved until the war's end.

The captain, Henrick Mimler, survived the war in

Camp Clinton POW Camp but remained in the US after the war. He became a citizen in 1974 and, a very old man, was discussing finances with his Dean Witter representative in Tower One on 9/11. He took the secret of his lost U-Boat to the grave with him.

In a press conference scheduled for Monday, April 2, 2012 at the Mississippi Department of Archives, Dr. Bruce Willinghan will formally

Wreck loaded on barge (fig5)
present the findings and reveal proposed final display locations. One, The LeFleur Bluff Park in Jackson; the other, Vicksburg National Park. "The Mississippi Department of Travel and Tourism stated that the display of the German World War II U-boat would be the greatest tourist attraction since the establishment of the casino industry."

The seating is very restricted at the news conference but Kilroy will be there! I will show all photos and reveal the proposed display location of the wreck in next week's (April 8) update. Those who would like a preview via email on Tuesday, April 3rd, contact the editor at Editor@KilroyWasHere.org. This must be limited to the first few hundred requests..
